TSB Festival of Lights shuts down after runaway truck crashes into power pole causing outage

As a result, it was cancelled for the night, but is expected to be back up and running again on Wednesday after power was restored later in the evening.
Four hours later emergency services attended a crash on near State Highway 3, just out of New Plymouth.
The two-car crash happened at Waiwhakaiho Rd West near the Meeting of the Waters Scenic Reserve at about 12.30am the police spokesperson said.
A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said one person in a critical condition and one person in a moderate condition were transported to Taranaki Base Hospital via ambulance.
“A 24-year-old male presented at Taranaki Base Hospital Emergency Department early this morning in a serious condition following a motor vehicle accident. He is has since been transferred to Waikato DHB,” a Taranaki District Health Board spokesperson said. ....

Grimace the Gorilla farewelling New Plymouth's Pukekura Park

Grimace the gorilla is in his last year of performing at the TSB Festival of Lights at Pukekura Park.
He s frightened parents, entertained kids and even slipped on a banana peel once, and after 15 years Grimace the Gorilla is retiring from New Plymouth s famous park to focus on his own family.
Grimace, whose identity has always been a well-kept secret, has just two appearances left at the TSB Festival of Lights in Pukekura Park, after 15 summers swinging in the trees at the New Plymouth District Council-run event.
His second to last appearance is on Saturday night and the other is January 16. ....

In the last 18 months the group has consistently sold out nationwide tours and has had slots at nearly every major Kiwi festival including Rhythm and Vines, Bay Dreams and Electric Avenue, with a full summer ahead of them.
They ve even toured in Australia, opening for Sticky Fingers and The Tesky Brothers.
Their 13-show American tour, scheduled for May, was postponed due to Covid-19. After lockdown the band had a staycation in Kaikōura to write new music. ....

From Christmas at the Bowl to Boxing Day in Pukekura Park

New Plymouth guitarist Matt Everest will be playing at the TSB Festival of lights on Boxing Day.
Matt Everest first played Christmas at the Bowl as a 14-year-old in a band and doesn t really remember the gig well.
Last Sunday, he performed at the same event, this time playing his original instrumental rock guitar loop music.
Everest said he d remember the gig this time.
“I ve felt famous for a week,” he said.
“The first hour leading up to it I was s.ing myself but after it was just incredible eh – so many people came up to me.”

A night at New Plymouth's Pukekura Park set to give you The Chills

The Chills last came to New Plymouth in 2018 when they performed at The Mayfair.
The free outdoor gig starts at 8.30pm when the lights turn on, and runs until 9.45pm. MetService is predicting a warm and sunny evening, with a high of 19 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, on the Fred Parker Lawn, New Plymouth pop/folk artist Laura Griffiths, formally of Perfect Strangers, will be playing original music from 8-8.30pm.
She will be followed by singer-songwriter Stephanie Piquette.
At 9.15pm and 10.15pm The Arboreal Artist, Chloe Loftus, will perform acrobatics above Fountain Lake and Tansi Productions’ dancers will be busting a move at different locations at the festival until 11pm. ....
