Pelicans star big man Zion Williamson has a fractured left ring finger and will be sidelined indefinitely, according to the team’s Twitter feed.
Williamson underwent a series of diagnostic tests on Thursday before the Pelicans departed for their game Friday night at Philadelphia. A CT scan revealed the injury. A treatment plan and timetable for his return will be determined upon further evaluation, the team adds.
The loss of Williamson could end New Orleans’ playoff aspirations. The Pelicans are still in the running for the play-in tournament, sitting 1 1/2 games behind San Antonio for the 10th and final spot. ....

On Oct. 15, 1890, New Orleans police chief David Hennessey was shot as he was walking home late at night.
Hennessey returned fire, but was mortally wounded. When police captain William O’Connor asked him, “Who gave it to you, Dave?” Hennessey whispered “dagoes,” a racist term for Italians.
“ASSASSINATED,” read the front-page headline on the New Orleans Daily Picayune the following day. “Ambuscaded at his doorstep and six bullets shot into his body, one of which is pronounced fatal. The murderers declared to be Italians of the criminal class.” ....

American Routes Shortcuts: Wayne Baquet, Sr. and Arkesha Baquet of Li'l Dizzy's Cafe

5:40
Wayne Baquet, Sr.: Our first restaurant was open in the 1940s. It was a place called Paul Gross Chicken Coop. It was called that because they actually served fried chicken. Not too many people did that back then because they didn’t have deep fryers. Actually the person that inspired that was Ada Baquet Gross, Paul Gross’s wife and my great aunt. And it was in Tremé, on the corner of Bienville and Roman. That was our first restaurant. My dad worked there, I even worked there as a teenager. Then my dad went off on his own, opened up Eddie’s Restaurant. Kind of famous: 2119 Law Street in the Seventh Ward. And then from there, I broke off and opened up several different restaurants including one around the corner called Eddie Baquet’s and probably eight or nine other restaurants that I’ve had over the past nearly fifty years of doing this. And Wayne and Arkesha, they still have it going here at Li’l Dizzy’s for the future.    ....
