Jump-Starting Electric Vehicle Charging in New Jersey


PSE&G is helping to put New Jersey on the road to clean-running electric vehicles.
The state’s largest utility received approval from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to invest $166 million in electric vehicle charging over an expected six years. The investments are designed to accelerate the growth of EV charging infrastructure, encourage more drivers to switch to EVs, improve air quality and reduce health care costs.
“Electrifying transportation is an important component of PSEG’s Powering Progress vision for a future in which we help our customers use less energy, ensure that the energy they use is cleaner, and that energy is delivered more reliably than ever,” said Karen Reif, vice president of PSE&G’s Renewables and Energy Solutions group. ....

PSE&G Invests in Expansion of New Jersey EV Charging Infrastructure

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities has approved a settlement that will enable PSE&G to develop electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in New Jersey. With this approval, the state’s largest utility is expected to invest $166 million over an expected six years and create about 270 direct clean energy jobs while helping to build out the state’s EV charging infrastructure.
PSE&G’s investments are designed to increase the availability of vehicle charging and ease range anxiety. Many drivers cite the lack of convenient charging options as the top reason they are reluctant to switch to EVs. Cars, trucks and buses are the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions in the state, and the New Jersey Energy Master Plan prioritizes electrifying the transportation sector as a key strategy to improve the state’s air quality and reduce health care costs.  ....

Lawrence Township’s focus on sustainability – from creating a solar carport at the municipal building to installing two electric car charging stations for public and municipal use – has earned the Governor’s Environmental Excellence Award for Climate Change and Clean Air.
Lawrence Township Councilman Christopher Bobbitt accepted the award – which is New Jersey’s premier awards program that recognizes outstanding environmental performance, programs and projects – at the virtual awards ceremony Dec. 14.
“On behalf of my fellow Township Council members, the municipal manager and the residents of Lawrence Township, I am honored to accept this award,” Bobbitt said. ....
