IoT to boost D-8 member states economies post-Covid-19 — PM Muhyiddin

08 Apr 2021 / 22:29 H. - Bernama PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia’s Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Thursday that Malaysia believes the Internet of Things (IoT) will boost the Developing Eight (D-8) member states’ economies and that it will be the key driver in transforming the global economy post-Covid-19 pandemic. In his keynote speech when participating in the 10th Summit of the D-8 virtually today, Muhyiddin said Malaysia was actively cultivating IoT-based industries like e-commerce, big data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain and automation. He said the Covid-19 pandemic had highlighted a newfound sense of urgency to the digital inclusion agenda. “While the crisis has enabled hundreds of millions to work, learn and connect digitally, it is easy to see how it has also exacerbated the situation for far too many people in vulnerable situations around the world.

Pemerkasa: RM300 subsidy for households to buy smart phones (Updated)

KUALA LUMPUR: To reduce the digital gap, the government has enhanced by RM300 the subsidy for buying smart phones for B40 households with schoolgoing children under the Prihatin Network Programme, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. The prime minister said the allocation for the Prihatin Network Programme has been increased to RM2 billion, and it would be launched in May. “I appeal to telecommunication companies to offer affordable internet packages and continue to provide additional data quota,” he said when unveiling the RM20 billion Strategic Programme to Empower the People and the Economy (Pemerkasa), which was aired live on television today.
