By Sun Journal staff
For the eleventh consecutive year, New Bern Elks Lodge No. 764 will be selling BBQ pork spare ribs on Saturday, Feb. 6 at Piggly Wiggly, 1208 Simmons Street in New Bern from 8 a.m. to noon. Because of the current Covid pandemic, modifications will be made to the sale.
Only full slabs will be sold at $16 each. The ribs will be dry-rubbed only. BBQ sauce packets will be provided to compliment the ribs.  Cash or checks will be accepted.
Checks made out to “New Bern Elks” are preferred to reduce individual contact. From Middletown, New York, David began his firefighting career during his four years in the Air Force Reserve. He then became active with the Middletown Fire Department and remained there for 53 years, as well as the Howells Fire District for about 45 years. During that time, he served two terms as fire chief and four terms as fire commissioner. He also worked as the vice president of operations for Cassel Brothers Stores, Inc., a high-end clothing retailer, for 30 years before retiring. ....
