Lockdown day 3: Dhaka streets largely deserted UNB 16th April, 2021 08:23:44 The streets of capital Dhaka were largely deserted on the third day of a nationwide ‘strict’ lockdown compared to the first two days. Rickshaws, which were seen plying the city streets in the early days of the lockdown, were hardly seen today. Visiting Kakoli and Banani Chairman Bari on New Airport Road, Gulshan-1, Gulshan-2, Progoti Sarani, Merul Badda and Rampura areas, this correspondent saw vary few private cars and other private vehicles out on the streets. Traffic Inspector Asaduzzaan of Mohakhali area said the number of private vehicles as well as rickshaws is very thin on the weekend. ....

6-year-old Ramwadi underpass cracked PMC for compromising on safety in its pursuit of cheapest options during tendering The product of an eight-year legal struggle and an investment of Rs 25 crore, the Ramwadi underpass on Pune-Ahmednagar Road linking Viman Nagar and Kalyani Nagar was slated to decongest traffic on the New Airport Road and Kalyani Nagar. But six years since its opening, it has turned into a hazardous passage for motorists, with its roof and walls leaking and concrete chipping off the ceiling’s slab. Most users of this critical linkway are now mortally scared of it, having encountered the dripping ceiling mid-summer that has rendered the path slippery, and visible cracks looming. Despite the long lull in traffic through the lockdown, the underpass has already reported 12 accidents in the past one year. ....

CTP issued 7,325 tickets for speeding in 2020 Islamabad January 19, 2021 Rawalpindi: City Traffic Police (CTP) issued 7,325 challan slips for speeding and imposed fines amounting to over Rs2.9 million on the rules violators during 2020. According to In-charge Camera Squad Ahmed Nawaz Tarar, CTP on the directives of Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Syed Ali Akbar Shah were checking speeding on various roads of the district and taking action in accordance with the law against the violators. He informed that the squad conducted operations to check speeding through speed cameras on main roads particularly old Airport Road, New Airport Road and in other sectors including Taxila, Kalar Syedan and Meharabad. ....
