Shutterstock Expect broadcasters to report big growth this year as we emerge from the pandemic, but the context is everything. Radio stations were among the hardest hit entertainment companies in 2020, but they re battling back to recapture some of their losses. This was reflected in the first quarter 2021 earnings reports issued last week by iHeartMedia, Audacy (formerly Entercom, pronounced like “odyssey”) and Cumulus, the three largest radio companies in the U.S. For all the gains in digital radio and podcasts, the recovery of radio companies comes down to broadcast advertising, still the backbone of these increasingly diversified businesses. Unfortunately, broadcast radio isn’t close to full health. iHeartMedia’s broadcast radio revenue, which accounted for 50.7% of total revenue, was 47% greater than 2020 s second quarter, the pandemic’s low point, but still 22.3% below Q1 2020. My 9-year-old self had nightmares for weeks, and now I can’t so much as hear the show’s iconic theme song without getting a shiver down my spine. For fraidy-cats such as myself, I recommend the long-running series’s new podcast, which feels more like story time around a c ....

They were found buried on Chad Daybell’s property in June. The couple is now facing charges of destruction, alteration or concealment of evidence. They have denied any wrongdoing. ....
Condé Nast Entertainment wanted a major podcast network, but the producers say they got burned instead Share this story Condé Nast Entertainment Condé Nast had big plans for podcasts in 2020. It launched its new, eponymous podcast network and three initial shows The Pitchfork Review, In Vogue this summer with an initial presentation at the NewFronts conference for media buyers . But by the end of December, most of the people who created and worked on those new shows were no longer employed by the company. In a statement today, 11 former Condé Nast Entertainment (CNE) contract producers and editors allege the company mishandled their employment, outsourced their work to additional contractors, and, generally, bungled the network through mismanagement. ....
