Alisa Haushalter, head of the Shelby County Health Department, has tendered her resignation, Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris told county commissioners Friday. The step comes as the county comes to grips with state and federal inquiries into spoiled COVID-19 vaccine doses and other problems, including reported theft of some doses and shots inappropriately given to children. Harris said Haushalter will remain in office temporarily as she winds down affairs. He plans to introduce a proposed interim director in the next few days. He also said the lower-level director who had been overseeing the health department vaccine program has retired, and the pharmacist who had been contracted via Regional One to work on the vaccine program is no longer engaged in that role. ....
