Coercive control is a deliberate pattern of abuse that can isolate a partner from their friends and family, restrict their movement, and see them being monitored.
It can include emotional and psychological manipulation along with social, financial and technology-facilitated abuse.

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists says domestic violence laws are perpetuating coercive control and not criminalising the behaviour would be negligent.
Representative psychiatrists were among witnesses on day two of the NSW parliamentary inquiry into coercive control on Tuesday, expressing support for new legislation because “goodwill and inter-agency agreements” were not working.

'Good intentions are not enough': Calls to consider complex coercive control faced by migrant women

Coercive and controlling behaviours are complex and can look vastly different across culturally and linguistically diverse communities, experts have told a parliamentary inquiry. 
Several organisations representing CALD communities appeared at the NSW Parliamentary Joint Select Committee on Coercive Control on Tuesday, calling for a cautious approach to criminalising the pattern of domestic abuse that would protect and not further harm already vulnerable victim-survivors. 
Ms Nemat Kharboutli from Muslim Women Australia, a specialist provider of domestic and family violence (DFV) services for CALD and faith-based communities, said while the group supports a coercive control offence in principle, it has concerns about its potentially problematic implementations in practice.  ....
