Catholic Charities set to open new Muskegon drug and alcohol detox center in March Updated Feb 17, 2021; Facebook Share MUSKEGON, MI – Catholic Charities West Michigan is planning to open a new drug and alcohol detox center in Muskegon on Friday, March 12. In a news release, the new Kolbe Center is described as the “first detox center of its kind in the Muskegon area.” The 4,700-square-foot building, located at the 1713 7th St., will provide stays of three to five nights for people withdrawing from substance abuse. The nonprofit’s $4.5 million project in the Nelson Neighborhood also includes a service center. Catholic Charities CEO David Bellamy said the Kolbe Center will be the “missing piece of the puzzle” for people fighting drug and alcohol addiction. ....
Community members keep Little Free Pantry stocked in Muskegon neighborhood Updated Jan 16, 2021; Facebook Share MUSKEGON, MI – For over a year, a Muskegon family has maintained stocking a simple plastic cabinet with food and supplies to help community members in need. Sara Wolovlek started the Little Free Pantry in September of 2019 after she saw a Facebook post circulating about how to run a small, community food pantry. “I looked at my husband, like ‘Hey, I want to do this,” Wolovlek said. The couple bought a cabinet, put it in their yard and within three days the little pantry was up and running. ....
