hello, and welcome to inside politics. i m dana bash. we begin with breaking news. the man who massacred jews at a pittsburgh synagogue is now staring down the death penalty. a jury just found that shooter guilty on multiple counts nearing 40 counts so far, they are still reading in that courtroom. it includes capital offenses and hate crimes. i want to go outside the courtroom. that s where we have danny freeman live in pittsburgh. danny, what are you hearing so far president bush. reporter: as you said, we re getting live reports from inside the courtroom. so tar we have been through 40 counts, including special instructions, they have all been found guilty. and that is including the 22 capital ompss. he faces 63 federal charges, already convict ed of 41 now. and then also the use and discharge of a firearm to commit murder during and relation to a crime of violence and possession of a firearm. and also convictioned on all of the hate crimes he was accused of earlier. i
top of the hour now on cnn newsroom. i m john berman. this morning president biden reassuring americans that the u.s. banking system remains safe. this despite the failure of two significant banks within 48 hours. silicon valley bank and signature bank have now been taken over by federal regulators. all customers who had deposits in these banks can rest assured. rest assured they ll be protected and they ll have access to their money as of today. that includes small businesses across the country that bank there and need to make payroll, pay their bills and stay open for business. no losses this is an important point. no losses will be borne by the taxpayers. the president emphasized the customers will be fully protected while the bank s managers and investors will be held accountable. he also outlined the emergency measures his administration took to protect the bank s customers. cnn s priscilla alvarez is with us. look, a lot of this is trying to ease the anxiety
explosives. more now from evan perez. reporter: according to the fbi, he checked the bag and in routine screening happening by the tsa, they found explosives in this checked bag. according to the fbi, this is what they found. they found powder that was in a plastic wrap, they found fuses. powder appears to be from commercial grade fireworks. and so the question is, you know, what was he doing with this. the airport tried to page him while he was still at the airport. he left. and he was later arrested that evening on monday by the fbi. the court documents that were released today by the u.s. attorney in philadelphia don t mention any indication of extremism or his ties to terrorist groups or anything like that, something obviously that the fbi was focused on the last couple of days. nothing like that appears to have emerged in that investigation. this is a very serious thing obviously. if you read the court documents, the fbi says that this powder that was included in this
