WORCESTER The College of the Holy Cross received a $23.5 million donation from a former member of its board of trustees and longtime benefactor, the largest estate gift in the college’s history.
Agnes Neill Williams bequeathed the money to Holy Cross in her will when she died last March at 89, according to the school.
The school announced the donation Friday.
The college plans to use the donation to kickstart a new campaign, inspired by Williams s gift, aimed at raising $40 million for need-based financial aid from this month until June of next year.
According to the school, “the goal of the 18-month Hope + Access campaign is to ensure that all admitted students have the opportunity to attend Holy Cross regardless of financial need.”
