Communities deluged by repeated flooding across Fife have been told they will not be eligible for a slice of the recent £150 million committed by the Scottish Government to target hardest hit regions.
Council officers say the new fund, a top up to a £42 million Holyrood commitment already in place, will only be available to cover the increased costs of flood projects that have already been earmarked, and Fife has none. ....

A Fife hotel has been praised after stepping up to offer free accommodation for NHS workers left stranded because of the affects of Storm Darcy.
The owners of the Beveridge Park Hotel in Kirkcaldy made the gesture after the region was battered by blizzards and heavy snowfall.

A mammoth operation to deliver food and presents to more than 1,400 families who otherwise would have nothing on Christmas Day has taken place in Fife’s most deprived community.
The 12-hour emergency response by staff at the Cottage Family Centre in Kirkcaldy, using a fleet of vehicles, delivered more than £35,000 worth of food parcels and presents to people suffering hardship in the town.
In the biggest response undertaken by the charity in the 12 years since it started the festive support, staff worked flat out as last minute referrals for help continued to come in. ....

A new Kirkcaldy gift card will give the town’s businesses a continued boost, despite a post Christmas shutdown.
While non-essential retail will close from Boxing Day when Tier 4 restrictions are imposed, the card is valid for a year meaning many stores can expect customers to return when they reopen.
The town’s independent retailers have enjoyed a successful festive shopping period, with many traders saying business has been steady. ....
