Items or ordnance found at Alum Bay. With the incoming tide also covering the Alum Bay items of ordnance, the operation was called off for the day, with a plan to meet the Royal Navy s EOD team today (Saturday) to dispose of the ordnance at low tide. Upon inspection, the items at Alum Bay were deemed as safe by bomb disposal experts and were subsequently removed from the beach. Royal Navy bomb disposal did a controlled explosion of items found at Alum Bay and Totland Bay. The item found at Totland was destroyed in a controlled explosion at around 4.20pm, once the tide allowed access. ....
The family of Peter Arthur, of Lee-on-the-Solent, have been informed, police said. Cowes RNLI searched for two hours in rough conditions before returning for a crew change and going back out again. Hillhead Coastguard Rescue Team was also sent out to assist Hampshire Police with the search. They searched for eight hours, along with Portsmouth Coastguard helicopter 175, Calshot RNLI, Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue, and the National Police Air Service. At 2.30pm today (Sunday) an appeal was launched, asking people for any information they may have about the whereabouts of Mr Arthur, 68. After reports of a body spotted off Cowes, Cowes RNLI Lifeboat went out just after 4.30pm. ....
