3-day local absentee voting starts April 27

MANILA-Over 84,000 public and private employees who have applied to vote ahead of the May 9 national and local polls will start casting their votes on Wednesday, April 27, for the three-day local absentee voting (LAV), the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Tuesday. Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said the personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and other government agencies, as well as members of the media, will be voting ahead of the registered voters in the country starting April 27 until April 29. "For PNP, AFP and other government offices, it is the head of office who will conduct the voting, he/she will be the one to distribute to the local absentee voters their ballots," he said in a Viber message to the media. Over 30K PNP personnel will cast votes on April 27 to 29

A total of 26,813 cops assigned in police regional offices and 3,248 cops assigned to the national headquarters in Camp Crame will avail the LAV on April 27, 28 and 29, PNP public information office chief Brig. Gen. Roderick Alba said. They may vote on any of these days from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. "The venue is in multi-purpose center, Camp Crame Quezon City for Crame-based PNP personnel while police provincial offices are in-charge for the venue of LAV for PNP personnel in PROs," Alba told reporters. In a statement, the poll body said the delivery of the election materials to government agencies, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), media entities, and corporations has commenced. A total of 84,221 are set to participate in the local absentee voting (LAV) for the 2022 national and local elections later this month. The majority of the voters are members of the police at 48,698, followed by the Philippine Army at 32,786. There are 4,261 from the Philippine Air Force, 3,075 from the Department of Education, and 953 members of the media. Nearly 10.5M voters 'deactivated, deleted' for 2022 polls

(File photo) MANILA - Close to 10.5 million registered voters in the country have been either deactivated or deleted from the list of voters for the May 9 polls, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) reported on Thursday. Data from the poll body revealed that a total of 7,236,952 deactivated voters and 3,246,262 names have been deleted from the voter's list. Of the number, 7,229,493 were deactivated due to their failure to vote in the last two national elections, 3,993 were excluded due to court orders and 2,718 were declared insane or incompetent by authorities. Also deactivated were 536 voters who were sentenced to more than one-year imprisonment, 134 who failed to validate, 52 who lost their Filipino citizenship; and 26 who were sentenced for committing crimes against national security. For deleted voters, 1,490,678 voters transferred to another city/municipality; 892,627 were double registrants, and 755,769 already died.
