MANILA-Senator Robinhood "Robin" Padilla wants more cemeteries for Muslims and indigenous people (IPs) to ensure that proper burial in accordance with their customs and tradition will be observed. Under Senate Bill 1273 or An Act Recognizing the Proper Burials of Muslim Filipinos, Indigenous People, and Other Denominations, Padilla said that many groups including Muslims have a hard time burying their deceased loved ones because of the lack of public cemeteries that will accommodate their customs and beliefs. "The proposed measure seeks to recognize the proper burial of Muslim Filipinos, Indigenous Peoples, and other denominations, providing for appropriate burial grounds in public cemeteries, and for other purposes, in order to preserve the sanctity of their beliefs and culture honoring their dead," Padilla, a Muslim, said in his bill, noting the 1987 Constitution ensures the right of all Filipinos to express their beliefs and faiths without discrimination.
