(Photo courtesy of PIA Abra) MANILA - The amount of infrastructure damage from the magnitude 7 earthquake that rocked Abra and nearby provinces in Northern Luzon on July 27 has climbed to PHP1,805,650,590.62. In an update on Wednesday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the damage was incurred in the regions of Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, and Cordillera, as well as the National Capital Region (NCR). It also recorded PHP33.7 million worth of damage to agricultural facilities, equipment, and machinery in the Cordillera region, and PHP22.7 million worth of damage to irrigation facilities in Cordillera and Ilocos. The NDRRMC added that houses damaged by the tremor totaled 35,798 in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, and the NCR, 35,112 of which were "partially damaged" and 686, "totally damaged". "Since yesterday (Wednesday) the 24th Infantry Battalion (24IB) has helped evacuate the patients in a hospital in Bangued, Abra. 71IB deployed personnel to rescue affected residents in Vigan, Ilocos Sur. 54IB, 72nd Division Reconnaissance Company, 502nd Infantry Brigade, and CAFGU Active Auxillary units helped in road clearing, provided transportation assistance, and conducted search and rescue operations in different areas in northern Luzon," AFP public affairs office chief, Col.
