Henderson resident shows appreciation for the Fire Department

Fire broke out in the home of William and Ann Ellis in 1962, but the Henderson Fire Department was quickly on the scene and put out the fire before it could do extensive damage.
Looking back on the event 58 years later, Ann Ellis said if the Fire Department had not been so quick to respond, “My house would have burned down.”
Simply saying “thank you” seemed to be inadequate. So on Christmas Eve of that year, she took a batch of her special pineapple upside down cupcakes to share with the firefighters.
What started as a simple act of appreciation became an annual event. It was soon expanded to include the Police Department and the Vance County Sheriff’s Office. Ellis has delivered her baked delicacies every year over that span of more than half a century. ....
