Regular court functions to remain suspended during 'strict lockdown'

The SC administration issued three separate notifications today to this effect.
The notifications upheld the earlier decisions saying that Court No-1 of the Appellate Division (a full bench of the Appellate Division headed by the chief justice) will run judicial functions from 9:30 am to 12 pm on every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday and its chamber judge will deal with cases from 11 am on every Monday and Wednesday.
Four High Court benches three-division benches (two-judge) and a single-member (one judge) out of total 52 will perform judicial functions virtually to deal with the urgent writ, civil, criminal, company, and admiralty related petitions. ....

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain has reconstituted some benches of the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court for virtually hearing and disposing of urgent cases to deal with the changed situation amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nazmul Ahasan, a freelance journalist based in Dhaka and Ariana Pemberton, a PhD student in the Department of History of Art, UC Berkeley, received the Subir and Malini Chowdhury Fellowships, respectively, for this year. The fellowships are awarded each year by the Subir & Malini Chowdhury Center for Bangladesh Studies, which is dedicated to supporting Bangladesh-related research and promoting the art and culture of Bangladesh.

HC for taking care of tortured madrasah student’s study
The High Court (HC) on Sunday asked the authorities concerned to take care of the study of a student, who was beaten up mercilessly by his teacher for crying to go home with his mother from Markazul Islami Academy Hafezia Madrasah in Chattogram’s Hathazari, so that it cannot be hampered in anyway.
A High Court division virtual bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice Shahed Nuruddin said this as Chattogram Deputy Commissioner and Superintendant of Police submitted reports on the actions taken over that cruel incident.
Informing the court about the reports, Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Barrister ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud said the accused teacher Mawalana Md Yahia has already been sent to jail and he has been sacked by the madrasah authorities. ....
