Retired fire captain Gary Diamond had many simple joys in his life: his family, his wife, his grill, the Pittsburgh Steelers, drinking beer at the river, fishing, and helping his community.
The 56-year-old father and grandfather from Molino worked for 10 years at Navarre Beach Fire Rescue, starting out as a fireman in 2006 and ending his career in 2016 as a captain. He still volunteered at local fire stations as a fire truck transport driver, in addition to his job as a FedEx driver.
Gary was, to sum it up, “a man of gold,” said his cousin, Richard Diamond, who considers Gary more of a brother than a cousin. ....
