Members of Parliament Committee arrives at INS Kadamba Naval Base for inspection
Karwar: As many as 16 MPs from various parts of the country arrived at the INS Kadamba Naval Base in Arga of the Uttara Kannada district on Wednesday to inspect various works being undertaken at the site. The MPs, who are members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Defense Department of Parliament, met to discuss the progress of the second phase of work on the Naval base and speak with senior officers of the Navy. They also visited the Goa Naval Base on this occasion.
Headed by chairman Juval Oram, the 16-member Parliamentary Standing Committee arrived in Karwar and Goa to study the location of the Naval base and to review various issues including the current operational status and coastal security. Chairperson of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence (SCOD) Jual Oram accompanied by members of the committee visited Karwar Naval Base on Wednesday as part of a two-day visit.
The tour of Goa and Karwar is part of an on-the-spot study of the “state of present operational preparedness in the Arabian Sea, including coastal security”.
According to a press release issued by Public Relations Officer of the Naval Base, the delegation was received and conducted by Rear Admiral Mahesh Singh, NM, Flag Officer Commanding Karnataka Naval Area.
The delegation was briefed on the progress of activities with respect to the development of Project Seabird, including the modernisation of Naval Ship Repair Yard (Karwar) and the capabilities of Indian Naval Ship Vikramaditya. ....

Rear Admiral Deepak Bansal, Admiral Superintendent of the Naval Ship Repair Yard, awarding ‘wings’ to a new officer who graduated as air-borne tactician at the Naval Base in Kochi on Friday.

A batch of six Navy officers, including three women, graduated as observers, tacticians on board maritime reconnaissance aircraft, at INS Garuda at the Naval Base here on Friday.
Rear Admiral Deepak Bansal, Admiral Superintendent of the Naval Ship Repair Yard, was the chief guest who awarded the coveted “golden wings” to the officers.
Sub Lieutenant Prateek Khandekar was awarded the Book Prize for being adjudged the “Best in Overall Order of Merit” from the course and Sub Lieutenant Prachi Mishra was awarded the prize for being adjudged the “Best in Flying”. ....
