Brewster School Committee race grows tense


In a typical school committee election, Heather Sprague might put out a lawn sign supporting her candidate, but in terms of advocacy, that’s as involved as she would get.
Ahead of Tuesday s election, though, the Brewster mom has been reaching out privately to talk to friends about one candidate she thinks is taking pains to avoid talking to voters about her beliefs.
That candidate is Rheanna Hastings, who is running against Sarah Sherman for the town’s only contested school committee seat.
Sprague, who identified herself as a Democrat, says Hastings has tried to obscure her connections with right-wing political groups and her motives for running. ....

Cape Cod woman lends her voice in support of local recreation

ORLEANS   In the spring of 2019, Tracy Murphy found herself talking with other parents in Orleans about the need for recreational activities to keep their children active and engaged.
“We wanted more programming, more activities for kids, support for working families, so we went to the Select Board,” she said. 
The board listened to their concerns and threw the ball back in their court. 
“If you say you want a voice loud enough, and they give you a voice, you have to step up to the plate,” she said. ....
