Joseph Washington, director of the men s rescue center at Lighthouse Ministries, said the organization anticipated increased numbers throughout the week but especially Tuesday night because of the steep temperature drop. It had two extra guests Monday night.
The rest of the week in Lakeland is expected to be cold with temperatures not warming up to the 70s again until Friday. But Tuesday and Wednesday were projected to be the coldest, both with lows of 36 degrees.

Keily Delerme, a forecaster with the National Weather Service Tampa Bay Area, said the cold weather was ushered in by a recent cold front. The effect has been so intense that Polk County is under a wind chill advisory from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Tuesday. We are expecting very cold wind chills with temperatures feeling as low as 30 degrees in Polk County during this time, Delerme said. The temperatures are going to be cold, and the winds are going to make it feel a lot colder.
On Tuesday, the high will be 55 degrees with a low of 37 degrees, according to the National Weather Service s forecasts. It ll climb slightly on Wednesday, with a projected high of 62 degrees and a low of 36. On Thursday, the high will be 69 degrees with a low of 46 degrees. And as Lakeland moves into the weekend, it ll really start to warm up, with a high of 77 degrees and a low of 56 degrees.
