The mental health crisis in the veteran population has exponentially grown, leaving our soldiers to fight their toughest battles on their own after their time enlisted
But we owe our veterans more than just pride in what they did. We owe them the best mental
health we can provide. There is a growing body of evidence that these “quiet” suppressed wounds of our soldiers are as debilitating as wounds to limbs.
To draw attention to the issue of suicide among veterans, the Alaska Black Caucus discussed mental health issues among Black veterans in one of its weekly community conversations.
