Friends fear for climate activist Disha Ravi's wellbeing as arrest sparks outrage in India

Indian politicians and activists on Monday condemned the arrest of a 22-year-old climate campaigner accused of sedition for helping edit an online document that Sweden’s Greta Thunberg had promoted in support of farmers protesting in the country.
Ms Thunberg had shared a toolkit or an action plan on Twitter which listed ways to help Indian farmers, who have been protesting agricultural reforms here they fear will ruin their livelihoods.
Over the weekend, police brought Disha Ravi, a leader of the Indian arm of Ms Thunberg’s climate crisis-related Fridays for Future movement, to the capital from her home in the southern city of Bengaluru to question her. Ms Thunberg said she had no comment on the detention of Ms Ravi. ....

He said similar events would likely happen with increasing frequency.
“We can’t expect extreme events to increase in a smooth linear fashion, they could jump up at an extremely fast rate at any time, these are the risks we are taking as climate change continues,” Professor Steffen said.

He said studies had shown that Australians were five times more likely to face physical displacement due to climate disasters than their European counterparts.
“But it’s important to note our Pacific Island neighbours face 100 times the displacement risk than Europeans. That displacement risk is only likely to increase for both them and for us,” he said. ....
