Pakistan's Tokyo-bound shooters suffer setback

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Tokyo-bound shooters faced a setback when the ISSF World Cup scheduled in Baku, Azerbaijan, from June 21 to July 2 was cancelled.
This was the only event for them before the Olympics.
The International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) on Monday announced: “We are forced to inform you that ISSF World Cup Baku 2021 will not take place [due to the situation with the coronavirus pandemic and surge in the growth of the number of people infected in the territory of Azerbaijan].”
It is to be noted that Gulfam Joseph, Khalil Akhtar, and Ghulam Mustafa Bashir have not participated in any international event since December 2019. ....

KARACHI: National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) has dropped the programme of inviting a renowned Serbian coach for training of the shooters who have qualified for Tokyo Olympics.
“Nobody is willing to travel to Pakistan due to the covid-19 situation all over the world,” said Executive vice president of NRAP Javaid S Lodhi while talking to ‘The News’. “We had to drop this idea and now we will arrange training camps for them in the country with local resources,” he added.
Javaid said they had arranged a three-week training camp recently and the results were very encouraging so another camp would be arranged after Ramadan. ....

KARACHI: National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) is in talks with a renowned Serbian coach for training of the shooters who have qualified for Tokyo Olympics.
“He will confirm his availability by the end of this month. If he agrees, we will start training from May 15,” said Executive vice president of NRAP Javaid S Lodhi while talking to ‘The News’.
He added that Pakistan Sports Board has already approved the cost of training plan which may exceed Rs5 million.
“If he is not available, he will arrange his assistant for the training but we will also look for other options,” said Javaid, adding that the coach will also accompany the shooters in international events, including Tokyo Olympics. ....

KARACHI: The Indian government has given clearance to Pakistan’s top shooter Usman Chand to participate in the ISSF Shotgun World Cup scheduled in New Delhi from March 18-29.
“Indian Embassy in Pakistan has taken required documents from Usman after getting clearance from New Delhi,” said Executive Vice President of National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) Javed Lodhi.
He added that hopefully the visa will be issued to him in a few days.
According to the entry list, Usman is to feature in the championship to play the skeet event. ....
