India needs to increase its employment-intensive growth and production while improving job quality, according to a report by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in association with the Institute for Human Development. The report outlines five critical policy issues that need intervention at national and state levels to address decent work deficits faced by youth in the country.
"There is practically a consensus among academics and policymakers on the robustness and representativeness of the NSS survey methodology, which is replicated across other surveys such as the NFHS and the PLFS," a paper noted. The statistics ministry, in a reply in Lok Sabha, instead pointed out that they stood by the robustness of surveys and that the claims around survey problems were rooted in faulty approaches.
The concerns regarding the National Sample Surveys sampling design are deemed invalid by Rao Inderjit Singh, Minister of State for Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. He argues that the conclusions drawn from the surveys were based on faulty approaches and inapplicable methods. The ministry follows UN guidelines for designing household survey samples and ensures statistically significant estimates.
