Our investment in education yielding positive results – Gov Sanwo-Olu

Our investments in education yielding positive results ― Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said on Thursday that his administration’s intervention in the education sector in the state has begun to yield positive results, disclosing that his government had so far completed over 1,097 projects covering 970 schools across the state within the last two years.
The governor said this during the commissioning of four Lagos State School infrastructure projects, just he expressed joy that students’ performance had improved in examinations, national and international competitions, among others.
The projects, which were commissioned, include a block of 18 classrooms with administrative offices, library, laboratory block, toilets, and borehole each at Igbobi Junior College, Somolu; Fazil Omar Senior High School, Iwaya; Onike Girls Junior High School, Yaba and Akintan Iwaya Junior Grammar School, Surulere. ....

NITDA wants emerging technologies captured in schools' curriculum

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has urged stakeholders in the education sector to ensure that the curriculum of schools reflects emerging technologies needed for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).
Mr Kashifu Inuwa, the NITDA Director-General, said this at the National Olympiad Award in Abuja, late last week.
The ceremony was organised by the National Mathematical Centre (NMC), where more than 90 secondary school students across the federation who performed exceptionally well in mathematics were recognised and rewarded.
Represented by Dr Collins Agu, the Director, Corporate Planning Strategy at NITDA, Inuwa said that emerging technologies were the future the country’s workforce and the country needed to prepare the young ones in that regard. ....

Abia private school shines at National Olympiad awards

Emefiena Lifted Udoka and Ikechi Favour Chinaza, students from the school, won the first and third prize in the Junior Science category respectively at the 2019/2020 Nigerian Mathematics and Sciences Olympiads competition organised by the National Mathematical Centre (NMC) in Abuja.
Ikechi Favour Chinaza also won the award of Best Girl in Junior Science.
The awards ceremony held on Thursday to honour students.

NMC was established by the federal government on January 1, 1988, to sustain interest in the mathematical sciences at all levels in Nigeria.
Lawrence Ogbonnaya, TEDA’s vice principal who accompanied the students to the event, said: “The awards mean a lot for TEDA. They are rewards of the efforts of the students, teachers, and management of the school”. ....
