Daily Trust - Nigeria's 10 months battle with COVID-19


The first confirmed case in Nigeria was announced on February 27, when an Italian citizen in Lagos tested positive for the virus.
On March 9, a Nigerian citizen who had contact with the Italian was traced to Ewekoro, Ogun State, and recorded as the second case of the virus in the country.
Nigeria recorded the first death from the virus on March 22. As at December 23, 1,236 deaths have been reported across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Five deaths daily 
Although Nigeria is one of the countries with low fatality rates from the virus, the country averages five deaths daily since the first death from the coronavirus was announced in March. ....

The Federal Government has rolled out new containment measures against the importation of COVID-19 particularly from the United Kingdom and South Africa, saying returnees from both countries are required to present two documents before boarding.
National Coordinator of the Presidential Taskforce PTF on COVID-19, Dr Sani Aliyu, disclosed this during Thursday’s briefing of the Taskforce.
He said; “In particular, international travellers must register with the Nigeria international travel portal.
“We are concerned a out the emergence of the new variant of COVID-19 in the UK and an additional mutant in South Africa. Our protocol to ensure the safety of our citizens and prevent the importation of cases into the country is one of the most strict. ....

Breaking News | Recent News Nigerians Will Get Shots Of COVID-19 Vaccine For Free

Following a directive by President Muhammadu Buhari to make the coronavirus vaccine available to Nigerians, the National Coordinator of the Presidential Taskforce (PTF) on COVID-19, Dr. Sani Aliyu has said it will be administered to Nigerians for free.
He noted that the government already had plans of delivering and administering the vaccinate, however, the major challenge they are bound to face is public acceptance of the vaccine.
Dr. Aliyu disclosed this while speaking on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily.
He said:
“Yesterday, the President gave the PTF the mandate to proceed with preparations with regard to the vaccine. ....
