South Africa has a roadmap to the creation of a legal dagga industry, reports Cannabiz Africa publisher Brett Hilton-Barber.
After years of dithering, it seems that South Africa is on the road to the creation of a legal dagga industry.
Earlier this month during her budget speech vote, Agriculture Minister Thoko Didiza gave an update on the “National Cannabis Master Plan”, which she will present to Nedlac in the next few days.

Cannabis Master Plan to be presented to Nedlac

NATIONAL NEWS - The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) is on the verge of presenting a Cannabis Master Plan to Nedlac.
DALRRD Minister Thoko Didiza says as the legalisation and the commercialisation of cannabis remains at the forefront of public debate and on top of the agenda for policymakers globally, the plan will be presented to the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac) by the end of May 2021.
The Minister said this when she tabled the department’s budget vote in Parliament on Thursday.
She said this was one of several masterplans that the department will finalise as part of setting targets and implementing interventions to increase production in the sector. ....

The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development will begin issuing and monitoring licences for hemp production in October.
Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development Minister Thoko Didiza announced this on Thursday in her budget vote speech.
She also urged Parliament to remove hemp from drug trafficking legislation.
About high time, some will say, but the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development will begin issuing and monitoring permits for the production of hemp in South Africa.

Agriculture, land reform and rural development minister Thoko Didiza says her department will start issuing permits for production of hemp in October this year.
Didiza was addressing a mini-plenary session of the National Assembly about her department s R16.9bn budget on Thursday afternoon. She said legalisation and commercialisation of cannabis had been at the forefront of public debate and on top of the agenda of policymakers, not only in SA but globally.  ....
