Each year, the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize, supported by UNESCO and the Kingdom of Bahrain, rewards the best technological innovations to improve children’s education. For the 2020 edition, the Chinese programme “One College Student Per Village” and the Finnish collaborative education platform “ViLLE” are the two winners of the prize.
The Chinese program and the Finnish platform have one thing in common: both use artificial intelligence to improve the quality of a child’s learning and keep him or her in educational continuity. (Ecofin Agency) - The Smart Village Project for Rural Growth and Digital Inclusion (PVI) was officially launched on Thursday, December 3 in Niamey, Niger. Led by the National Agency for the Information Society (ANSI), it aims to connect 2,111 target villages to mobile and broadband Internet services.
CFA58 billion ($107 million) will be disbursed by the government for this project, set to cover over six years, said Ibrahima Guimba Saidou (pictured), the director general of ANSI.
As part of the PVI, the target villages will benefit from digital infrastructures, digital and financial education campaigns, modernization of the means of payment of farmers and breeders cooperatives to develop dematerialized transactions, and the creation of data platforms for farmers and breeders. ....

Niger: Govt to pump $100mln+ into digital agriculture transformation

(Ecofin Agency) - Launched on December 3, 2020, the Smart Villages for Rural Growth and Digital Inclusion (PVI) Project is a program that aims to develop agriculture and livestock farming, mainly through digital technology. It seeks to connect 2,211 villages and benefit nearly 1.5 million producers, thanks in particular to the financing of digital infrastructures.
To achieve this goal, the government planned a major digital and financial education campaign that will ultimately help modernize payment methods and develop financial transactions in the areas targeted by the project.
With a total cost of $107 million (about CFA58 billion), this project will be piloted by the National Agency for the Information Society (ANSI) for 6 years. ....
