Russia declares 'We do not fear Alexei Navalny, protests or Western sanctions'

The Kremlin said today it was not afraid of Alexei Navalny or the mass protests he demanded on Monday after the opposition leader was jailed for 30 days on his return to Russia.  
Vladimir Putin s spokesman also shrugged off the threat of renewed Western sanctions after a wave of condemnation from Europe and the US following Navalny s arrest. 
Navalny, who accuses Putin of plotting to poison him last August, was locked up until mid-February as he waits to hear whether a suspended prison term will be converted into three-and-a-half years of jail time. 
After a hastily-arranged court hearing in Moscow, Navalny urged Russians to take to the streets , with a few hardy supporters already gathered outside the police station in -20C temperatures.  ....
