NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. A 38-year-old Hilliard woman has been sentenced to 15 days in jail for shooting a dog in the head with a crossbow, a punishment called pitiful by an animal-rights group.
Carey Marie Wilson of Missouri Street was initially charged May 27 with two counts of animal cruelty after a dog was found with an arrow shot through his skull 11 days earlier, according to the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office. Justice for 26 Animals Reportedly Stuffed into Trailer

Goal: Prosecute woman who reportedly stuffed over 20 animals into a cramped trailer.
Over 20 animals were allegedly stuffed into a small, overcrowded pickup truck trailer and transported across the state of Florida. The trailer was so tightly packed, one of the animals was described by authorities as being “trampled.” Loren Jean McCutcheon, the woman allegedly responsible for this abuse, was arrested and charged with ten counts of animal cruelty. If these horrific allegations are true, she must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
The animals imprisoned in the trailer included eight dogs, seven cats, four horses, two donkeys, one alpaca, three mini horses, and one ring-tailed lemur. They were only discovered after McCutcheon’s pickup truck was stopped at a weigh station due to expired tags. It is unknown at this time what McCutcheon’s plans for these animals were; however, similar cases point to the illegal transportation of animals for farming or priva ....
