6 New Confirmed P1 (Brazilian) COVID-19 Samples
Port-of-Spain, April 30, 2021: The Ministry of Health advises the public that the P1 COVID-19 variant (Brazilian Variant) has been detected in 6 additional COVID-19 positive samples in Trinidad and Tobago.  The Variants of Concern were detected in cases from:
Nariva/Mayaro (1) -  non-national , primary contact of another confirmed P1 variant case
St. George West (5) - all nationals. 1 case is the primary contact of another confirmed P1 variant case
All contact tracing and isolation procedures are in progress, and are being managed by the relevant County Medical Officer of Health with the aim of reducing the spread of this Variant of Concern. ....

Two more covid19 related deaths were reported on Saturday, bringing the total in TT to 171. This makes it 14 deaths since April 23.
According to the Ministry of Health’s 4 pm update, there were also 248 new cases of covid19, taking the nine-day count to 1,689, and the total to 11,072.
The number of active cases was 2,355 with 201 in hospital, 236 in quarantine facilities, 1,884 in home isolation and 22 at step-down facilities.
The number of recovered patients increased by 65 to 8,546.
At the ministry’s virtual press conference on Saturday morning, epidemiologist Dr Avery Hinds noted that the number of new cases in 2021 met and surpassed those at the peak of cases in 2020. The seven-day rolling average is also increasing. ....

Six new cases of Brazilian variant detected in Trinidad and Tobago

Six additional cases of the Brazilian variant (P1) of covid19 have been detected in Trinidad and Tobago.
A release from the Ministry of Health on Friday stated that one was a non-national from the Nariva/ Mayaro county who was the primary contact of another P1 case. The other five were nationals from the St George West.
This brings the total local number of confirmed covid19 samples of the P1 variant to 15. Health officials are testing random sample for the potentially stronger strain of the virus among people who have covid19. One of the earlier cases also came from Venezuelan migrant. ....
