Mutual caring between Kinship and foster carers and the children in their custody emerged as a silver lining during last year’s lockdown, a new report finds.
Pandemic-induced lockdowns have yielded stories of both hardship and resilience. This extends to the Kinship and foster carer community, which has weathered unique challenges as children are physically (and sometimes virtually) cut off from their biological families.
A new report by the University of Sydney Research Centre for Children & Families sheds light on these experiences. Researchers surveyed organisations working with foster and Kinship carers in NSW throughout 2020, and found that various positives for Aboriginal communities emerged: ....

Sabre WA State Championship at Perth Dinghy Sailing Club

The State Championship was held at Maylands Yacht Club for two Heats and PDSC held four Heats. A good sized fleet of 25 lined up for the final two Heats Saturday 6th March 2021 at PDSC sailing in Matilda Bay.
The overall result came down to the final race, as the first three positions were on the line. Over the line in the final and last race was Tony Carr first Andrew Rose second with Scott Olsen third.
Andrew Rose a relative newcomer to the class has improved immensely. Another newcomer Jonas Nilsson from Sweden sailed consistently in the top ten. Old hand grand veteran sailor Bill Gillham finished 4th overall. ....

Sabre WA State Championship Heats 3 & 4 at Perth Dinghy Sailing Club

On Saturday 6th February with weather unpredictable due to a low off the coast and winds predicted to be around 15-20 knots Easterly, Perth Dinghy Sailing Club held Heats 3 & 4 of the State Championship in Matilda Bay.
Starting in 20 knots easterly the fleet got away in Heat 3, around the 1st Mark - Scott Olsen followed by Tony Carr, Carl Girolamo, Bill Gillham and Lane Bauer. Being a short course that was also how they finished over the line. First lady to finish was Narelle Thomas.
Heat 4 started with a wind strength of 28 knots constant gusting to 30 + knots in lumpy water. The PRO Steve Burt hesitated but remarked, they are Sabres they will handle it, lets give them the long course . ....
