Amanda Krakovitz says she lost $3,000 to scammers who convinced her to buy Target gift cards at Lowes by saying her Social Security number was tied to criminal activity.

She said she was the victim of a gift card scam, and she’s sharing her story because she doesn’t want others to fall for a similar fraud.
Gift card scams come in many varieties, but they all have the same end goal: stealing your money. The scammers tell victims they need to buy gift cards to pay overdue tax debt or they may be arrested. Or that the gift cards are needed to pay medical bills for a grandchild who got into an accident or for bail for a loved one who got into criminal trouble.
