HOLYOKE Student fees will remain frozen for the next academic year at Holyoke Community College, the board of trustees decided Tuesday.
The unanimous vote will freeze an educational service fee, which comes in at $188 per academic credit, and a $145-per-semester student service fee. For each of the past five years, the college has increased these fees by about 5% annually.
The board’s decision to freeze the fees is part of the college’s ongoing efforts to accommodate students experiencing financial hardships due to the pandemic, according to college President Christina Royal. ....

Holyoke Community College vice president of administration and finance Narayan Sampath s recommendation to freeze student fees was accepted by the Board of Trustees. The college s audit and finance commitee shared in the recommendation.

Citing the financial hardships brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Holyoke Community College Board of Trustees unanimously voted Tuesday to freeze student fees for the 2021-2022 academic year.
“This demonstrates our concern for the success of our students. They depend on us, and freezing costs when they’re facing grave economic uncertainty is the right thing to do,” board chair Robert Gilbert said. ....
