You have probably noticed that the days have been getting longer recently, and despite the cold nip in the air in many places across North America, it is becoming more and more clear that spring is right around the corner.
With the change of season comes the joys of our national pastime as the boys of summer begin reporting for their spring training assignments in the coming days. And soon, we will once again hear the sweet sounds of leather and wood out on the baseball diamond that is, if the sport can successfully navigate through the gauntlet of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Caribbean Series, unlike the Mexican league, forced Paredes to battle big leaguers, former big leaguers and prospects each night.

Paredes played four of the five round-robin games, sitting out in Game 4 after a 1-for-12 start to the Caribbean Series. He returned for the final round-robin clash, with Mexico needing a win to advance to the semifinals.
In the bottom of the ninth, Paredes stepped to the plate with no outs in a 3-3 tie. He pulled a 1-2 inside pitch from Silvino Bracho for a triple to left field and was stranded by his teammates. Detroit Tigers third baseman Isaac Paredes was nearly the hometown hero Saturday in Game 7 of the Mexican Pacific Winter League championship series. Jogging around second base, he pounded his chest eight times. His teammates celebrated with him upon his return to the dugout.
Moments earlier, with Naranjeros de Hermosillo trailing 6-3 to Tomateros de Culiacán in the bottom of the seventh inning, the 21-year-old stepped into the batter s box with runners on second and third base with two outs.
Reliever Carlos Torres missed the strike zone with his first two pitches in the at-bat. The third pitch, in a hitter-friendly 2-0 count, went 88 mph down the heart of the plate. (Torres, 38, tossed in four games for the Tigers in 2019 as part of his 10-year MLB career.)
