Vaccine rollout: Nationwide dry run on Saturday

With the objective of gearing up for the rollout of Covid-19 vaccine across the country, the central government has asked all states and UTs to ensure effective preparedness.
Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting to review the preparedness at session sites for Covid-19 vaccination with principal secretaries (health), NHM MDs and other health administrators of all states/UTs through video conference.
A dry run will be conducted by all the state and UT governments on January 2. The activity is proposed to be conducted in all state capitals in at least three session sites; some states will also include districts that are situated in difficult terrain/have poor logistical support; Maharashtra and Kerala are likely to schedule the dry run in major cities other tha ....

India ends the year with record high recovery rate

For India, the annus horribilis ends on a note of optimism, as the nation crossed a significant milestone in its fight against Covid-19, with the recovery rate crossing 96% on Thursday.
The total recovered cases have crossed 98.6 lakh (98,60,280), the highest globally. The gap between active cases and recovered cases is continuously increasing and stands at 96,02,624.
In another achievement, the active cases have drastically declined to 2.57 lakh. The total positive cases of the country are 2,57,656 and now comprise merely 2.51% of the total cases.
With a high number of Covid-19 patients recovering every day and the sustained fall in the mortality rate, India’s steady trend of registering dipping active cases continues. India has concluded a two-day dry run to check preparedness for large-scale dissemination of Covid-19 vaccination across the country.
The union ministry of health & family welfare conducted the dry run for “activities entailed in Covid-19 vaccination” in four states – Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Gujarat – on December 28-29.
Backed with the experience of rolling out universal immunization programme (UIP) and conducting nationwide multiple wide-range injectable vaccination campaigns such as measles-rubella (MR) and adult Japanese Encephalitis (JE) campaign, required steps are being undertaken to vaccinate priority population groups such as health care workers, frontline workers and people above 50 years for Covid-19, the ministry said in a release Tuesday. ....
