CSPAN2 After Words December 26, 2014

He was subject to savage criticism but i think he retained a certain amount of popularity with the ordinary confederate citizens. On the three trips that he took to the deep south during the course of the war in december 1862 and again in the fall of 1863 and the fall of 1864, he spoke at a dozen or more venues during those trips almost too large and enthusiastic crowds. So clearly there was some residue of support and even affection for davis among the general population. At the same time that governors, senators, newspaper editors were savagely criticizing him. That doesnt mean he was as popular as lee or Stonewall Jackson by any means but i think he was probably more popular than the popular image with the image we would have of his place in the southern affections would indicate. Host in the record there is some evidence of the behavior for the Common People of confeder ....

CSPAN2 Book Discussion January 20, 2015

Howard has been writing about the past. And what is really neat is how he took on architecture. His first book, the preservation progress was a collection of essays and profiles, and then when he went right for right, that was with Frank Loyd Wright taking a look at the architectural biography of Frank Loyd Wright, and he partnered with Roger Strauss to take the photographs, and what followed is a series of books that are just not only stunning to look at but really faceting to be. We had hugh here before for the house of the Founding Fathers is one of the things. Just an interesting look at the Founding Fathers and the houses they live in. Hes written a number of books but this one is especially timel ....

CSPAN2 Booknotes February 14, 2015

Tell you think that maybe arent so honest to make me look good so im not going to do that. Its a temptation but im not going to do that but i will say i think smith taps into a wisdom that is millennial old. I am jewish. I have drawn a lot of parallels between smith and tolstoy. They are parallels between smith and a lot of great ethical thinkers of history so theres nothing new under the sun. As i say in my book money doesnt make you happy its not really a new idea. The hard part is to internalize it. The hard part is actually turn down the consulting opportunity thats really lucrative because your life is not a great argument to be putting forward. Thats the challenge. The challenge is i fell down, im in a hospital. Can you make me dinner and you actually do it and give up watching the game he wanted to watch with the red socks right . Thats hard to do. If you do it once its great. If you do it all the time you are a saint and i think we could all be a little more saintly. Thats the ....
