The bridge collapsed last night due to flooding of the river, following heavy rains. According to reports,three people believed to be officials from the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) and Immigration department are reported dead. Chilima was welcomed at the place by Paramount Chief Kyungu and officials from MRA and Immigration. Deputy minister of Transport and Public Works Nancy Mdooka was also present at the scene. Roads Authority has disclosed that it has engaged Zhejiang Construction Communications Company (ZCCC), the Karonga based contractor responsible for the construction of Kyungu bridge that been washed away by running water, early hours of Thursday, April 22 to fix the problem within 24 hours. Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Matapa has confirmed the development while assuring the road users of the 46km Karonga-Songwe road that the authority will fix Kyungu Bridge within 24 hours to make sure that business goes back to normal. Matapa however acknowledged that RA is aware of the critical role the road plays in the social-economic development of the country hence, the urgent attention. ....
