Griffin, who’s been cutting hair in the Ypsilanti area for more than 20 years, has earned a reputation as a mentor - particularly to young Black boys - by offering discounted haircuts to kids who read while they’re in his barber’s chair. While his discount - $2 off a haircut or $2 to the child - has created a buzz for his business, Griffin has had to adapt during the coronavirus pandemic. He’s shut down the brick-and-mortar location for Griff’s Unlimited Cutz and rebranded as Griff’s Mobile Barbering Service, bringing his barber kit to people’s homes for a $5 traveling fee.
