The Great Hornbill Run on December 5 - Eastern Mirror

Our Correspondent Kohima, Nov 22. (EMN): The Great Hornbill Run will be held on December 5 at Indira Gandhi Stadium (IGS) Kohima from 7 am as part of the Hornbill Festival. The run is being organized under the aegis of Nagaland Athletics Association (NAA) in association the Nagaland Tourism, and there will be three categories – senior, U-18 and U-16. In the senior category, both men and women will run for 10 km while for U-18, boys will run for 6 km and girls will run 4 km. In the U-16 category, both boys and girls will run for 2 km. The champion in the senior category will receive INR 15,000 while the second, third, fourth and fifth position holders will receive INR 10,000, INR 7,000, INR 5,000 and INR 3,000 each. In the U-18 and U-16, winners will receive INR 10,000 each while the rest of the position holders upto 5th position will receive INR 7,000, INR 5,000, INR 3,000 and INR 2,000 each. The entry fee for the runners will be INR 500 for seniors and INR 200 for both U-18 and

Nagaland Athletics Association lauds state athletics team's performance at NEOG

Dimapur, Nov. 17 (EMN): The Nagaland Athletics Association (NAA) has congratulated the athletics team of Nagaland for their commendable performance at the just-concluded North East Olympic Games 2022. NAA in an update stated that Nagaland athletics won a total of 23 medals that included nine gold, four silver and 10 bronze, which was the highest amongst all disciplines in the overall Nagaland tally. “The icing on the cake was the winning of best athlete in the girls’ U-20 by Niansai T and Neiketuolie Belho in men’s above 20. Their performance has made Nagaland proud and brought joy to the state’s citizens,” it stated. The association also lauded the coaches and support team who worked equally hard and made significant contributions towards the training and development of the contingent. “Our special appreciation goes to the Athletics Federation of India who made efforts to depute two national level coaches namely S Jayachandran and C Gopinath from Tamil Nadu,” it stated.

Abu Metha appointed chairman of National Mountain Running Committee

Dimapur, July 7 (EMN): Abu Metha, Associate Vice President, Athletics Federation of India has been appointed as the chairman of the ‘National Mountain Running Committee’ of the Athletics Federation of India. Extending its congratulations to Metha, Nagaland Athletics Association stated that this is the first time that a sports administrator from Nagaland will be heading a national committee. It said that the World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) was born in 1984 as the International Committee of Mountain Running (ICMR). In 1985, it first staged ‘the World Trophy’, attracting entries from more than 30 countries. In 2002, the IAAF Congress officially recognised it as an International Competition as defined by IAAF Rule 1 and in 2009 the name was changed to the Mountain Running World Championships.
