The Rotary Club of Peninsula Sunset collected $800 cash and 35 bags of relief items during their disaster relief initiative collection at the ROC Market in Suva, and donations continue to pour in.
Community Service Director Prashant Anuraag says the support from the people of Fiji towards the initiative has been tremendous and they are thankful that people have shown their support to those who have been affected by Tropical Cyclone Yasa.
In Bua, some people had to flee as their houses disintegrated in the wind.
In Koro, destructive winds and heavy rain are being felt in Nasau Village and people have been relocated to two evacuation centres.
Panapasa Nayabakoro, who lives in Koro, said 32 people are sheltering at the Nasau Health Centre and the rest are in a school. He said most of their houses are flooded and some were houses blown away.
A teacher at Nacamaki District School in Koro, Ilisabeta Daurewa, said they are experiencing damaging winds and several kitchen sheds in the village have been blown away.
She said more than 100 people are taking shelter in six classrooms at the school.

Damaging winds now being experienced in Koro – Daurewa

A teacher at Nacamaki District School in Koro, Ilisabeta Daurewa says they are experiencing damaging winds at the moment and several kitchen sheds in the village have been blown away.
She says more than 100 people are taking shelter in six classrooms at the school.
Daurewa says there is heavy rain and while they cannot see anything, they can hear waves continuing to crash through at the lower end of the village.
She says they cannot stop the rain from seeping into the windows and doors and for now they have moved all children to the dry places in the rooms while the men continue to stand guard.
Buildings and crops were destroyed on Vanua Levu, Fiji s second largest island, and there s been widespread flooding and landslides. There are widespread power outages, and phones are down, after winds of 240km/h - with gusts as high as as 345km/h. Yasa is heading south through the Southern Lau Island group. People in Fiji s northern division described Cyclone Yasa as the scariest experiences of their lives.
