Hale and hearty MYSURU: When two-day-old sloth bear cubs were abandoned by their mother in the thick forests of Nagarahole Tiger Reserve in mid-January, forest officials did not think that they could survive. The cubs were just born, and their eyes were yet to open. With no other option, the cubs were shifted to Mysuru Zoo. Today, the cubs are hale and hearty, and crawling about with their eyes wide open, all thanks to the Mysuru Zoo authorities, who took care of the little ones and saved them. The cubs are more than a month old now. BP Ravi, a senior IFS officer, and member-secretary of the Zoo Authority of Karnataka, said that when the cubs were brought to Mysuru Zoo, they were just two-three days old. They weighed approximately 1.1kg. They were handed over to Mysuru Zoo by the Nagarahole Tiger Reserve director, after their efforts to reunite the cubs with their mother went in vain. Zoo staff took great care of the cubs, and helped them survive by hand-rearing them ....

The four-member gang would have killed auto driver Madhusudhan if police had not arrived on the spot.
