The Fairfield Coin Show held its 53rd Annual Coin Show and Auction on October 8, 2023. The show was held at the North Side Grade School. Doors opened at 9:00 AM
Myles Levi and Avery Smith were crowned this year's Homecoming King and Queen at Cisne High School during ceremonies held Saturday. Levi is the son of Shawn and Jeanette Levi of Cisne. Avery is the daughter of Sonny and Tonya Smith of Johnsonville. The retiring King is Noah Atwood, son of Troy and Mandy Atwood of Cisne. The retiring Queen is Emily Milner, daughter of Mark and Terra Miller of Geff. Serving as emcee for the coronation was Aubrey Churchill, daughter of Daniel and Jennifer Churchill of Mt. Erie. Following the coronation the Homecoming Dance was held. The theme song was "So This Is Love" and the decorating theme was "Royal Ball". The Illinois Department of Public Health reports a total of 3,906,801 cases of the coronavirus in the state as of this morning, and 35,550 total deaths. FCHS Special Board Meeting Fairfield Community High School District #225 will hold a Special Board Meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, November 16 at 4:00 p.m. in the FCHS District Office. The focus of the meeting will be to approve the application of a school maintenance grant for FY23. ### IECC Board Meeting The Illinois Eastern Community Colleges Board will meet tonight at 6:15 pm at Wabash Valley College in Main Hall 101. Items up for discussion include Articulation Agreements with EIU, ISU, McKendree, and SIU. Also, up for approval are the 2022 Estimated Tax Levy Resolution, Marathon Property Tax Agreement, FY 2022 Audit, the Annual Financial Report, Purchase of two 2019 Wabash Trailers, and a Resolution to Invest in ISDLAF. The board will also enter into an Executive Session. ### Court Report 33-year-old Todd W. Ray entered an admission to violation of probation in Wayne County Court. Illinois lawmakers have passed a new state budget. The budget includes over $1.8 billion in tax relief. Some of the provisions are temporary, such as lifting the one percent grocery tax for a year and delaying a scheduled increase in the gas tax until January. The budget also doubles the property tax rebate up to 300 dollars and sends a one-time payment of at least 50 dollars to most individuals and 100 dollars per child. The Earned Income Tax Credit which helps low income working families will be expanded and there will also be a sales tax holiday for back to school purchases in August. The Cisne FFA enjoyed a successful day of competitions Friday at the District V Livestock Judging and Horticulture Career Development Events at SIU-Carbondale. The Varsity Livestock Judging Team of Emma Hedrick, Lexi Weber, Abigail Biggs, Kori Kessell and Myles Levi finished in 13th place.
