Chattanooga Dominates TSWA DII-AA All-State Softball Team
Total Of 20 Athletes Honored Across All Classifications Saturday, July 10, 2021 - by Dennis Norwood
The Chattanooga-area was well represented on the Tennessee Sports Writers Association All-State Softball Team for 2021. Having 20 girls named to the team is a true testament to the quality of the sport in our area.
There were student-athletes from Chattanooga and its surrounding area honored in every classification with 10 of the 12 spots in Division II-AA going to the Scenic City. As Baylor head coach Kelli Smith remarked, “10 of the 12 spots held by Chattanooga girls illustrates how talented our city is with incredible softball players.”
Spring sport state champions will be determined this month after the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the games in 2020.
Which area softball teams have the best chance to win titles at Spring Fling May 25-28 in Murfreesboro?
Here are nine Midstate squads to watch during the TSSAA postseason:
Class A
Local front-runner: Summertown (27-2-1)
Summertown captured the Class A crown in 2018 and finished second in 2019, so itâs no surprise to see the Lady Eagles back in the hunt this year. The teamâs only losses were to Class AA programs Forrest and Nolensville early in the season. Summertown might be ready for better competition after outscoring its opponents 211-19 through the first 30 games.
