While we didn’t witness Cora’s entrance into Griffin instead plopped into her existence thereafter some time we can imagine it was much warmer than this.

And life is about to get even sweeter for the young actress. âThe Underground Railroad,â an Amazon Prime Video series will premiere May 14 on the streaming service. Mychal-Bella plays Grace, a lead role, in this drama that is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Colson Whitehead. The series chronicles Cora Randallâs desperate bid for freedom in the antebellum South. It is set in an alternate version of the 19th century in which the Underground Railroad is a literal underground train system used to transport escaped slaves to freedom up north. It was filmed in Savannah, Ga.

The inhumanity of slavery stains every frame of The Underground Railroad on Amazon Prime Bill Goodykoontz, Arizona Republic “The Underground Railroad,” Barry Jenkins’ realization of Colson Whitehead’s novel, a limited series that is, well, great. But not perfect. Even a filmmaker as gifted as Jenkins falls prey to the temptations of the lack of limits prestige cable offers. The 10-episode series, which streams on Amazon Prime Video beginning May 14, easily could have been trimmed. But the narrative gets away from Jenkins a little, especially in the middle when the focus shifts away from the enslaved woman trying to escape to the man trying to catch her. It s needed to tell the story, but goes too far down that path.
