Markets regulator Sebi on Monday gave time till September 1 for mutual funds to comply with new rules wherein they are required to share details of risk, performance and portfolio to investors only for the scheme in which they have invested. The new norms were to come into effect from June 1. Based on the representation received from industry body Amfi, it has been decided to extend the implementation date to September 1, 2021, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) said in a circular. In late April, Sebi asked mutual funds to make disclosures about scheme risk-o-meter, performance and portfolio details to investors only for the particular plans in which they have invested.

The Mutual fund industry saw its collections through SIPs dropping 4 per cent to Rs 96,000 crore in the 2020-21 fiscal, as COVID-19 induced lockdowns led to income uncertainty. Going forward, success of the vaccination drive, better than expected economic scenario and higher incomes can be the factors that will have an impact on systematic investment plan or SIP flows, Gopal Kavalireddi, Head of research, FYERS, said. While a few of the economic indicators like GST collections, auto and housing sales look positive, IIP and inflation data along with intermittent lockdowns can affect the economic progress in the ongoing fiscal, he added.

This is true for three broad categories–equity, debt and schemes that invest in both (hybrid) A study conducted by Axis Mutual Fund shows average annualised return made by an equity MF investor was 13.2 per cent between 2003 and 2020.
