[ cheers and applause ] this is the thing about the 80s. everyone thinks it s about crazy haircuts, lots of makeup, insane clothes, and it was, but the thing about this music that lasts is that their songs were so good. melvoin: you can go back and listen to those records, from the engineering to the musicianship to the writing and performance of it and it surpasses most music. brown: everybody had a story, and they wanted to tell it. the artists that were coming through the tv and into your lives. everybody wants to rule the world questlove: i ll say the music of the 80s is more effective than what came to us in the 60s simply because all of us were included this time. no decade was more effective in dance music and politics in different genres than the 80s. there will never, ever be another decade like it, ever. everybody wants to rule the world ....
